As I live in the city, it is quite difficult to be fully emerged in nature. So every change I get I try to book a weekend or short holiday away. My favourite area close to the Netherlands must be the Ardennes in Belgium. I grew up spending all our families free time there and still has a special place in my heart.
Last winter we found a great cabin to stay in. Also important to mention, it was fully dog friendly and looked really nice, a difficult combination it seems. A very luxurious cabin with a wood fired hot tub outside. We drank champagne in the hot tub while looking at the stars, it can't get more romantic then that! During the day we went on really beautiful hikes. One trail passes straight by the house. About 14 km though the woods. Big recommendation.
A bit closer to home and perfect for the weekend, was our 'natuurhuisje' on the Veluwe. Located on estate Tongeren. A simple but fun cabin in the woods, with a fireplace, Fanta's favourite spot. On the estate you can hike different trails. We walked the green route of about 7 km. The highlight of this trail for me was definitely the decking path in the middle of the wetlands. - Cannot wait to find a new cabin in the woods for some new adventures!
